TECO Electric & Machinery (Dongyuan) was founded in Taipei on June 12, 1956 to manufacture industrial electric motors, in a Taiwan that was beginning to industrialize and needed reliable components. In 1970 it diversified into home appliances, starting precisely with air conditioning, and in 1972 opened the Tamsui plant for calculators, televisions and air conditioners.

In 1975 it partnered with Mitsubishi to manufacture refrigerators, developed the first Taiwanese air conditioner for clean rooms and in 1988 created the Westinghouse Motor Company with Westinghouse, which was absorbed in 1995 as TECO-Westinghouse. With headquarters in the Nangang district and listed on the Taipei Stock Exchange, it now operates in more than forty countries and its domestic splits remain a classic of Taiwanese homes.

In Spain, Teco splits and heat pumps were sold, especially in the nineties and the two thousands: the brand appears in spare parts catalogs, in the technical service lists of Barcelona and in second‑hand ads, and the forums show a company called Airteco, located on Mallorca Street in Barcelona, to which users turned for spare parts. They were simple units, with rotary compressors and modest prices, that competed with the Koreans for the market entry level.

Pending verification

It has not been possible to confirm who imported and distributed Teco heat pumps in Spain or in which exact years; the relationship of Airteco (Barcelona) with the brand only appears in a forum thread. The technical description of the units sold in Spain does not come from brand documentation.
