Clivet is the youngest of the major Italian cooling companies. It was founded by Bruno Bellò in 1989 in Feltre, at the foot of the Dolomites, to manufacture chillers and heat pumps with scroll compressors and high‑efficiency heat exchangers, a bet on energy savings that was then rare. In 1992 it added rooftops for large premises with air renewal, in 2001 the modular SPINchiller and in 2004 the residential systems ELFOSystem, ELFOFresh and Zephir; in 2006 all the group’s companies merged into Clivet S.p.A., with a 50,000 m² factory in Feltre itself.
In 2016 the Chinese giant Midea agreed to purchase 80 % of Clivet (deal signed in June and closed on October 31), including the subsidiary Clivet España, S.A.; the Bellò family retained the remaining 20 %. The company then had more than 700 employees. The alliance allowed the catalogue to be completed with R‑32 splits, VRF systems and co‑developed centrifugal chillers; in 2019 it launched a new image and in 2022 opened its European Hub in Milan. For the collector, Clivet is the brand of rooftops and chillers that hum on the roofs of hospitals and shopping centres throughout Italy and a large part of Spain.
The year of creation of Clivet España has not been confirmed nor whether Midea has subsequently acquired the remaining 20 % from the Bellò family.
